The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has made changes to the party leadership in the Nairobi City County Assembly.
“In line with the ongoing efforts to create a harmonious environment in the House, the Party’s Central Committee has made the following changes with regards to the leadership,” said ODM in a letter to new Speaker Benson Mutura.
- Geophrey Majiwa, Deputy Speaker Designate
- Michael Ogada Okumu, Minority Leader
- Melab Atema, Deputy Minority Leader
- Peter Imwatok, Minority Whip
- Moses Ogeto, Deputy Whip
- Catherine Okoth, Member of CASB
- Maurice Gari, Chair ICT Committee
- Nimo Haji, Deputy Chair Budget
The changes were communicated to Speaker Mutura by ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna.
But in a quick rejoinder, Imara Daima MCA Kennedy Obuya dismissed the letter, saying they will not be effected since the majority of ODM ward reps don’t the reason for the leadership changes.
However, Jubilee Party peacefully effected changes, bringing in Matopeni MCA Adi Guyo as Majority Leader, Mihango MCA Paul Kados as Majority Whip, and South C MCA Waithera Chege as the Deputy Whip.
Guyo had been suspended from leadership by former Speaker Beatrice Elachi.
