Security officers in Bungoma County are pursuing ten suspects who escaped from the Bungoma Central Police Station.

According to the police report, the suspects dug their way to freedom on Saturday night.

But a combined team of officers from the police station and Directorate of Criminal Investigations caught up with one of the suspect’s whom they shot and recaptured.

After digging their way from the police cell, the suspect escaped to a nearby bush and then towards an airstrip area.

The recaptured suspect was taken to Bungoma Referral Hospital for treatment for his gunshot wound on his thigh.

Police said the fugitives cut a metal bar that reinforced the cell’s door and used it to dig the hole.

The escaped suspects had been arrested for offenses ranging from the robbery with violence, burglary, assault, defilement, and stealing.

They have been identified as:

  1. Brian Ochieng Onyango, robbery with violence
  2. Clerkson Otieno, burglary
  3. Simon Wekesa, assault
  4. Collins Juma Nyukuri, assault
  5. Alex Simiyu Muyekho, stealing
  6. Bramwel Barasa, defilement
  7. Pascal Kiberenge Namasaka, impersonation
  8. Emmanuel Wakoko,assault
  9. John Barasa Wekesa, breaking and stealing
  10. Isaac Wekesa,stealing (captured)
