Kenya on Sunday recorded the highest number of Covid-19 cases in a day with 960 after testing 8,261 samples in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health said.

This pushes the country’s total caseload to 17,603.

In a statement to newsrooms, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said that the death toll also increased to 280 after two more patients succumbed to the virus.

The ministry, however, said that 169 patients were discharged from hospital, bringing the total number of recoveries to 7,743.

The majority of the new cases, 952, are Kenyans while eight are foreigners.

On the distribution of the cases, Nairobi led with 510 followed by Kiambu and Kiambu counties with 102 and 100 respectively.

In Nairobi, Lang’ata, Westlands, Embakasi East, Starehe, and Kibra had the most cases with 65,51,45, 42 and 39 cases respectively.
