Detectives in Makueni County are investigating an incident in which a man allegedly committed suicide while at his lover’s single-room house in Wote town.

According to the deceased’s lover, she retired to bed early leaving her 32-year-old boyfriend watching the football match between English Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester United in a FA Cup tie. The football tied ended 3-1 in favour of Chelsea.

The woman told the police that she woke up at about 4 am on Monday morning, July 20, to find her boyfriend’s body hanging from the roof of the house.

She said did not know why the man would have committed suicide since they had not quarreled.

The boyfriend allegedly hanged himself to death using his own jacket.

Police took the man’s body to the Makueni Referral Hospital mortuary.

However, following preliminary investigations police seized the woman for further questioning.

“Since it was a single room, this raised suspicions. We have arrested the lady to help in investigations over the boyfriend’s death. If there was foul play, the post-mortem would tell,” said Makueni Sub-County Police Commander Timothy Maina said.
