Former Kenya Pipeline Managing Director Charles Tanui and two other senior managers have been charged with abuse of office and fraud charges over an alleged Sh30 million scandal.

The corruption suspects were charged with abuse of office, making documents without authority, and failing to comply with procurement law.

Charles Tanui, Josphat Kipkoech Sirma and Elias Maina Karumi appeared before Anti-Corruption Court Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti on Thursday, July 16.

The prosecutor accused Tanui of using his office on February 18, 2014, to improperly confer a benefit to Redline Limited by authorizing payment of 8,695 Euros with respect to a tender for the supply, installation and commissioning of a transformer without authorization, testing and commissioning of the machine.

The three are facing a total of seven counts.

Magistrate Ogoti released the thee on a cash bail of Sh700,000 or a bond of Sh3 million each.

The court cautioned the suspects against any attempts to interfere with the witnesses.
