Forty-Five health workers have tested positive for Covid-19 in Mombasa County since March, 2020.
Mombasa county Health County Executive Committee (CEC) member Hazel Koitaba said out of the number, 35 were from private hospitals within the county.
This raises questions over the safety of frontline workers in the fight against the virus that has continued to ravage the country.
“Out of the 45 health workers who tested positive, about 10 percent of them came from private health practitioners,” Koitaba said.
She said more than 1,250 health workers in Mombasa have so far been tested for Covid-19.
The CEC was speaking at the Coast General and Referral Hospital while receiving locally manufactured, personal protective equipment, from Kenya Covid-19 Fund and Equity Group Foundation.
