The police officer who was accused of killing a 13-year-old boy Yassin Juma while enforcing curfew has been charged with murder at Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi.

Duncan Ndiema appeared before High Court Judge Luka Kimaru where he pleaded not guilty to the murder charge.

The suspect’s lawyer, Danstan Omari, pleaded with the court to release his client on bail.

“My client will abide with the guidelines of the court and we will serve the prosecution with an application for bail by 2 pm today,” said Omari.

Justice Kimaru ordered the suspect remanded at the Capital Hill Police Station until Wednesday, June 23, when the bail hearing will be conducted.

Ndiema was initially scheduled to take plea last week on Friday but the case was postponed because he was hospitalized after he developed Covid-19 symptoms.

The suspect is accused of committing the offense on March 30, 2020, at Kiamaiko in Huruma, Nairobi.
