Suspected armed bandits on Monday evening shot and killed four people at Songa-Badasa junction in Songa location, Marsabit Central.

The youth who were going home to Songa from Marsabit town, all riding on one motorcycle, were attacked at Badasa water point at around 6 pm by unknown people who were armed with guns.

Among the attacks of the victims were three men and a woman aged between 17 and 25 years.

Songa Chief Abdi Dera said the assailants disappeared into Mount Marsabit forest.

The motive of the killing could not be immediately established but police have started investigations.

Marsabit Central Sub County Police Commander Benjamin Mwanthi said a contingent of security officers was dispatched to the area to hunt down the suspected bandits.

Lewa Down Conservancy management also provided sniffer dogs to aid in the manhunt for the attackers.

The incident comes amid a firearms mop-up in the county by the national government.
