The impeachment motion against Kirinyaga County Governor Anne Waiguru is set to be voted on today.

Ahead of the vote, 24 ward representatives heightened the drama around the impeachment ouster by spending the night in the assembly.

The ward representatives were mobilized on Monday night and shepherded into the County Assembly lounge over fears that some of them would back out.

“Yes, we spent the night together. We didn’t want any surprises this morning but we thank God everything is going according to our script,” said Mr. Kinyua Wangui, the mover of the motion.

He revealed that they were determined to go through with the motion since the country has eased the strict measures to ward off coronavirus spread.

Mr. Kinyua said that the governor can no longer shield herself behind Covid-19 since she has been traversing the county campaigning against the MCA.

“We are telling the governor to stop hiding behind covid19 pandemic. We are all aware she has been everywhere fighting the motion,” he said.

He said that the Assembly has summoned Governor Waiguru through email and a letter addressed to her office directing her to appear before the Assembly or to send a representative to defend her.

The ward representatives have accused the governor of paying a fictitious company millions of shillings for work that was not delivered.

They also accused her of allegedly pocketing Sh10 million on foreign travel that she didn’t make, claims Ms. Waiguru has denied.
