Covid-19 recoveries in Kenya on Wednesday rose to 553 after 54 patients who recovered from the coronavirus disease in the last 24 hours were discharged from hospitals, Health CAS Aman has revealed.

The Health official said that 123 more people tested positive for the virus from 2,112 samples, pushing total infections in the country to 2,216.

Of the 123 cases reported today, 90 of them are male and 33 female.

Dr. Aman, who cautioned Kenyans especially Nairobians against adopting a casual attitude and ignoring Covid-19 health regulations, announced that 44 of the new virus cases confirmed on Wednesday were from the capital city.

The Health official said that a casual walk in the Nairobi Central Business District revealed that city residents don’t observe social distancing rules and use their face masks as chin guards.

He said that there is a level of concern over a build-up of trucks on border points because truck drivers are not observing protocols.

“Most of these drivers are not obtaining a Covid-19 free certificate before departing on their journey, 48 hours prior to traveling from point of their origin,” said Dr. Aman.

New cases by county and sub-county

The Health Ministry confirmed 34 cases in Mombasa, Busia 20, Uasin Gishu 12, Kajiado 3, Kiambu 3, Nyeri 3, Kilifi 2, Garissa 1 and Laikipia 1.

In Nairobi, the virus cases were confirmed in Kibra 10, Westlands 9, Dagoretti 4, Embakasi West 4, Embakasi South 3, Lang’ata 3, Makadara 3, Mathare 3, Kasarani 3, Ruaraka 1 and Kamukunji 1.

In Mombasa, the Covid-19 cases were confirmed in Mvita 11, Jomvu, 8, Changamwe 5, Likoni 4, Kisauni 3 and Nyali 3.

Dr. Aman said that all the 20 cases in Busia County were truck drivers tested at the Malaba border.

In addition, 12 truck drivers tested positive at the Turbo in Uasin Gishu County and three others at Kajiado County.

In total, 34 truck drivers tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday.
