Covid-19 cases in Kenya crossed the 2,000-mark after 59 people tested positive for the virus from 1,518 samples in the last 24 hours, Health Ministry said on Monday.

Of the new cases, 29 were confirmed in Nairobi County, 14 in Mombasa, six in Turkana, four in Busia, two in Taita Taveta and Kajiado, and one each in Kiambu and Kilifi counties.

In Nairobi County, the Health Ministry said that Ruaraka had eight cases — all of them from a mandatory quarantine facility. Westlands recorded six cases, Dagoretti North four, Langata four, Kibra three and one each in Embakasi East, Kasarani, Kamukunji and Makadara.

In Mombasa, the 14 cases are distributed in the following estates: Mvita (6), Kisauni (6) and Nyali and Changamwe two cases each.

Health Cabinet Secretary (CS) Mutahi Kagwe said that the six cases reported in Turkana County were at Nadapal Point of Entry.

Now the total caseload in the country stands at 2,021 with 80,053 samples tested since onset of the Covid-19 outbreak in Kenya.

However, the number of deaths rose to 69 after five more patients died of the disease in Mombasa and Nairobi hospitals.

CS Kagwe noted that the number of recoveries grew to 482 after eight patients were discharged from facilities.
