President Uhuru Kenyatta signaled the gradual re-opening of schools and places of worship on Monday after directing Interior and Education ministries to finalise guidelines and protocols in consultation with stakeholders.
In his speech during the Madaraka Day celebrations held at State House, Nairobi, President Kenyatta said his heart is with the students who are preparing for national examinations amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Interior ministry will devise the guidelines and protocols to be followed by churches and worshippers to ensure the safety of congregants while the Education ministry will finalize consultations with relevant stakeholders.
Further, President Kenyatta also ordered the Treasury to release Sh2 billion to the hospitality sector to cushion hotels that have been hard-hit by Covid-19 lockdown.
Serena and Fairmont hotels recently laid-off workers citing the biting Covid-19 with operating having ground to halt as tourists keep within their national boundaries.
