Security officers allegedly torched over 20 houses and shot dead 23 donkeys during an operation to mop-up illegal firearms in Riongo, Tiaty Sub-County in Baringo County.

Shops were also vandalized and looted during the disarmament exercise on Sunday morning, May 31.

At Loruk, police erected roadblocks and blocked members of the press from accessing the disarmament area, forcing journalists to look for alternative routes.

According to the locals, police arrived in the morning in four personnel carriers. The disarmament began on May 5, but the locals want police to focus on rooting out bandits instead of harassing civilians.
