Police on Sunday night launched an investigation into the alleged killing of a 33-year-old man by his girlfriend at his Umoja house in Nairobi.

The incident was reported to the police by a bodyguard attached to the chairman of the electoral commission Wafula Chebukati.

The bodyguard, Stephen Orad, said that his neighbour, Edward Okello, was stabbed in the chest by his girlfriend on Sunday at about 8.30 pm.

The victim, who is said to be an engineer at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, was taken to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

“The suspect of the murder who is the girlfriend… was identified by the neighbours and arrested immediately. The team proceeded to the residence at Umoja 2, Zone 8, Plot No. 5961 ground floor and found a pool of blood on the sitting room and a kitchen knife was recovered,” said the police report.

In their report, police noted that the murder incident was as a result of a disagreement between themselves (couple).

The victim’s body was taken to Mama Lucy Hospital mortuary.

In a video shared online, the suspect is seen being interrogated by the police in which she said she could establish what happened.

“I don’t know what happened…he started beating me. A woman will take anything to defend themselves. I took a cup and hit him with it… All I know he was hitting me,” the suspect told the police in Swahili.

She said:”We were just fighting…you are putting words in my mouth. I don’t know what happened.”
