Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru on Thursday told off ward representatives for planning to kick her out of office, warning them that she is too strong and powerful to succumb to intimidation.
The first-time governor dismissed the MCAs’ impeachment motion against her as a waste of time.
“I want to declare that I’m m not easily intimidated. I’ll continue discharging my duties without pressure from anyone because I know that only the people of Kirinyaga can remove me from office,” Ms. Waiguru said.
In a no-holds-barred attack on Kirinyaga MCAs and a senior government official she claims are behind the ouster plan, the former Devolution and Planning Cabinet Secretary bragged that she is one of the most powerful women in the country and no one will succeed in any attempt to eject her from the governor’s office.
Speaking at Kiaumbui Primary School in Njukiini Ward, Gichugu Constituency where she issued food donations to over 600 needy people, Ms. Waiguru said it is only the Kirinyaga people who can pass a vote of no confidence against her.
Asking residents to affirm their confidence in her leadership by a show of hands, the governor said that she will not be intimidated to back down from fulfilling her election promises.
Despite the show of bravado, the embattled Ms. Waiguru still pleaded with Kirinyaga locals to pray for her since enemies are powerful individuals.
The county chief, who was accompanied by six MCAs and former Mwea MP Peter Gitau, said that she has released bursary funds to be distributed, with each ward allocated Sh2.5 million.
“Please, I urge you to support me and talk to the MCAs who want to sabotage my work by erecting roadblocks in order to paint me as a failure,” pleaded Ms. Waiguru.
The Kirinyaga boss has been at loggerheads with her MCAs after the impeachment motion was filed by Mutira Ward MCA, Mr. David Kinyua Wangui.
The 27 MCAs who supported the motion accused Ms. Waiguru of mismanagement of country financial resources.
