Areas in Nairobi, Mombasa that have produced 16 new COVID-19 cases as tally rises to 336

Kenya’s coronavirus cases have risen to 336 after 16 more persons tested positive for the virus, Health Ministry Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Dr. Rashid Abdi Aman said on Friday, April 24.

The 16 cases were discovered in 946 samples tested between Thursday and Friday.

Eleven of the 16 were discovered in Nairobi, whereas Mombasa produced five. All the 16 carriers were picked out by Ministry of Health’s surveillance team.

The 946 samples tested in the last 24 hours were drawn from 13 counties, including Nairobi (532), Mombasa (312), Kwale (15), Kilifi (27), Kisumu (5), Siaya (17), Bungoma (4), Bomet (1), Taita Taveta (1), Mandera (15), Vihiga (15), Kisii (1), and Busia (1).

Five estates in Nairobi produced 11 of the 16 new infections. These estates include: Dandora (5), City Park (2), Parklands (2), Eastleigh (1) and Pipeline (1).

Mombasa, which posted five new infections, registered the disease in five estates namely: Kiembeni, Stadium, Senti Kumi, Msikiti Nuru and Mulaloni, which produced a case each.

CAS Dr. Aman said Kenya recorded five new recoveries, bringing the country’s total recoveries to 94. Total deaths in the country currently stand at 14.

So far, Kenya has tested 16, 738 samples for COVID-19.

Eight hundred and eighty seven (887) contacts of the previous confirmed cases are being monitored, said the CAS.

“We hope they won’t produce many cases,” said Dr. Aman, who spoke to journalists at Afya House in Nairobi.
