E-Plus emergency medical services firm says it has taken disciplinary action against a staff member implicated in the improper use of ambulance services.
The firm says their investigations revealed that on April 17, an ambulance was deployed in the evening for purposes other than the provision of pre-hospital services.
“Our attention has been drawn to a video circulating on social media platforms indicating that one of our ambulances was used inappropriately…The individuals carried in the ambulance were not in need of any pre-hospital services. This was in violation of our standards & protocols for service and the laws of Kenya,” says Ms. Susan Ngongá, the E-Plus managing director.
Further, E-Plus says it will review its procedures to address any potential for misuse of ambulance services in the future.
E-Plus cited a video shared online by activist Boniface Mwangi who claimed that a drive and a paramedic were deployed past curfew to pick a staff member’s child and his friends to ferry them home.
