Police in Kirinyaga are looking for a 45-year-old woman on suspicion that she hacked her husband and 13-year-old daughter to death on Friday morning.

It is alleged the suspect, who works at the registry department at Karatina Law Courts, hacked her 47-year-old husband, Charles Murimi, using an axe at 4am and, thereafter, fatally attacked her daughter. The incident happened at the couple’s home in Kioru Village in Ndia Constituency.

It is further claimed the woman tried to hit her 21-year-old son on the head using the axe, but he managed to defend himself against the attack before fleeing the scene.

Neighbours told K24 Digital that the suspect and her husband were often heard exchanging bitter words during arguments.

“However, they would find ways of ending their differences,” one of the neighbours said.

Charles Murimi was a manager at Jufred Dairies.

Jufred Dairies staff member, Fredrick Munyiri, told K24 Digital that he had been informed of the incident by the suspect’s son.

“I looked for my colleague, who accompanied me to the scene, where we found our manager, Murimi, lying in a pool of blood in his bedroom. In a room adjacent to the manager’s bedroom, was the body of his 13-year-old daughter who had sustained a deep cut wound in her head,” said Munyiri.

Munyiri described the suspect as a “quiet woman, who appeared depressed in recent days”.

It remains unclear where the suspect ran to.

Bodies of the murdered father and daughter, a Class Eight pupil at Jufred Academy, were taken to Kerugoya County Referral Hospital morgue.

Baricho OCPD, Joseph Mwiki, confirmed the incident, saying a search for the key suspect is ongoing.

This incident comes a few days after Kirinyaga County Commissioner, Jim Njoka, said he has noticed the influx of domestic violence-related cases in the county since the 7pm to 5am curfew was implemented on March 27.

“I urge couples to stop fighting one another, especially men who are naturally physically stronger than their wives. Should you find it hard to solve your issues privately, then you can seek the services of a marriage counsellor,” said Njoka.
