Police officers from the Kutus Police Station have successfully rescued 14-month-old baby who had been missing for five days.

The infant was reported missing on January 23, 2025, sparking a frantic search that ultimately led to her safe return.

According to a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) shared on their X page on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, the heartbreaking ordeal began when the baby’s mother left her child in the care of a relative while she briefly stepped into a local barber shop.

The mother went about her errands, assured that her child was in the hands of her relative.

However, upon her return, she was devastated to discover that both the relative and the child had vanished without a trace.

“The ordeal began when the child’s mother filed a report at the police station, detailing the troubling circumstances surrounding her daughter’s disappearance. She explained that she had left her child in the care of a relative while she briefly stepped into a barber shop for a haircut. Upon her return, she was devastated to discover that both the relative and the child had vanished without a trace,” the DCI noted.

Upon realizing that her daughter and the relative were nowhere to be found, Maurine rushed to the Kutus Police Station to file the report, urging the officers to do everything in their power to help locate her daughter.

According to the DCI statement, the officers acted promptly, moving swiftly to prevent the suspect from fleeing to distant locations.

“The police were able to trace a relative of the missing infant after five grueling days of deploying a combination of intelligence gathering and forensic methods,” the DCI added.

The officers’ diligence paid off when they were able to track down the relative to a hideout in Piai, a rural area in Kirinyaga County.

There, they carried out a covert operation, which culminated in the rescue of the baby and her safe return to her relieved family.

“Determined to bring the infant home safely, investigators promptly launched an intensive search. Through forensic trails, they were able to smoke out and arrest the relative from her hideout in Piai area of Kirinyaga County. The operation led to the successful rescue of the infant and her return to safety,” the DCI stated.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the disappearance are still ongoing, as authorities continue to uncover the full details of the case.

Meanwhile, the baby has been joyfully reunited with her family, marking the end of a tense and heart-wrenching five-day search.

“As investigations continue, the baby has been joyfully reunited with her family, bringing an end to their distressing ordeal and restoring peace to their hearts,” the statement concluded.
