Tributes have continued to pour in for the departed lawyer Judy Thongori, with Martha Karua being the latest to condole with the family of the legal practitioner.
Karua, in a statement sent via her X account on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, expressed her sympathies to the family members of the deceased.
She also reflected on the lawyer’s range in family law as she hailed her huge impact on the entire legal fraternity
“At the Nairobi chapel in a requiem service for Judy Wanjeri Thongori an accomplished lawyer and senior counsel who has left an indelible mark in Kenya’s legal landscape especially in family law , prayers and sympathies with her husband John Thongori , her children and entire family #RIPJudyThongori,” Karua said.
The NARC_Kenya leader’s remarks mirrors those of her peers in the legal fraternity who hailed the lawyer’s contribution to the legal field.
National Assembly speaker Moses Wetangula and Law Society of Kenya Chairperson Faith Mony Odhiambo also mourned the lawyer:
“Senior Counsel Judy Thongori distinguished herself as a trailblazer in the practice of Family Law, dedicating her career to not only advancing the jurisprudence of this specialized field but also nurturing the next generation of legal practitioners. Her mentorship of young advocates, particularly in navigating the complexities of Family Law, is a legacy that will resonate for years to come,” Wetangula said.
In her tribute of the fallen lawyer, LSK chair termed Thongori as beacon of excellence in the legal sphere.
“This morning, the legal fraternity mourns the loss of a distinguished member and beacon of excellence. Judy Thongori SC has been a monument of legal prowess and exemplified all the qualities of a professional North Star. Her noteworthy contributions to family law and human rights are timeless and continue to propagate a learning curve for many in the profession. The legacy she leaves behind will remain an indelible mark of her impact that lives on among us,” Odhiambo said.
Judy Thongori’s career
In her practice, Thongori founded the Judy Thongori & Co-Advocates in 2003.
Her acumen in prosecuting cases and her engagements with human rights activists saw her rise through the ranks and was conferred the ranks of senior counsel in July 2020.
She was also the first woman to be inducted in the rolls of honour of the Law Society of Kenya in 2013.
Thongori will be buried this Wednesday, January 22, 2025.
