Victor Ambeyi alias Vicky, the person of interest in the murder of a 78-year-old woman who had employed him as a casual worker at her home in Nyathaini, Kasarani, will take his plea in January 30, 2025.

According to prosecution documents, Ambeyi killed his employer after a disagreement over salary payment.

Prosecutor Millicent Kigira on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, told the court that Ambeyi could not take his plea before High Court Judge Justice Kanyi Kimondo virtually from a Nairobi remand because he had not yet been taken for assessment at the Mbagathi Hospital.

“We are not ready to proceed with plea. The suspect has not been escorted to Mbagathi (hospital) as ordered and kindly we request for another day for us to be able to be ready for plea taking,” Kigira requested.

Plea-taking deferred

Justice Kimondo then directed that the trial be conducted by Lady Justice Margaret Muigai and deferred the plea to January 30, 2025, which will be taken virtually and that the accused should be produced in the platform.

“This trial shall be conducted by Lady Justice Muigai. He is deferred to January 30, 2025. The accused be produced on the platform (virtual). The defense’s counsel be notified of the day,” Justice Kimondo directed.

Notably, Ambeyi’s lawyer did not show up for the case and there was no report given to the court on his absence.

Ambeyi is said to have killed Catherine Waceke Kimotho in November 10, 2024 and later wrapped her body with blankets, submerged it in a septic tank, located near a cow shed in her home, then covered it to conceal the body.

After committing the act, police say Ambeyi he went to hide at his cousin’s house in Valley area of Kinoo in Kiambu county, where he was later smoked out by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) led by Kasarani DCIO Justus Ombati, along with their counterparts from the Criminal Research and Intelligence Bureau in Nairobi Area and arrested together with the cousin; Collins Seda Wanjau.

Further, the DCI officers recovered the deceased’s phone which was sold by Ambeyi at a phone repair shop in Githurai 44, a shop which belonged to one Benjamin Kimani Mwaura who was also arrested.
