Police in Nairobi arrest man with human body parts in his backpack

Police in Nairobi, Huruma estate have apprehended a person of interest and recovered human body parts stashed in a bag he was carrying on his back.

In a statement from the National Police Service (NPS) on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, the 29-year-old man was ordered to stop at 5:00 am by the police who were on patrol within the Kelly Towers Area.

Upon searching his bag, NPS disclosed that the officers found the said human body parts.

“Police in Huruma, Nairobi Area on 21/01/2025 at about 0500 hrs while on patrol within Kelly Towers Area arrested a male adult suspect carrying a bag on his back and upon conducting a search, found a bag stashed with body parts of a human being,” the statement read in part.

More parts recovered

In their statement, NPS further explained that the person of interest led them to a house where they recovered more dismembered body parts underneath a bed.

The police statement added that the floor inside the said house was blood-stained.

“Also recovered from the crime scene was a blood-stained kitchen knife and female clothes suspected to have been the weapon of murder and cloths for the deceased respectively. The floor of the house was really stained with blood,” NPS detailed in their statement.

NPS added that the person of interest confessed to the crime telling them the body parts were of his female lover but they did not immediately explain if the confession was made in the presence of an attorney.

After officers from the crime unit collected samples and evidence from the house, police moved the body parts to City Mortuary where an autopsy is expected to be conducted.

The 29-year-old man was however moved to custody awaiting arraignment.

“The body parts have been moved to City Mortuary awaiting postmortem analysis. The motive of the murder is yet to be established, but the suspect is in police custody. The case is pending before court vide CR 126/12/2025, with DCI Starehe dealing.”
