Police have arrested three people in connection to the death of a security guard manning a bar in Kisii County.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), one of the persons of interest in the case was traced to Migori County while two of his suspected accomplices were nabbed within the Kisii Township area.
“On the fateful evening, the gang ambushed the 22-year-old guard at Engako Bar which is located within Nyachenge trading centre, clobbered him with crude weapons and left him for dead. As the victim bled his life out, his assailants broke into the bar and disappeared with Ksh26,000 worth of alcohol,” DCI said.
Positively identified
Police believe that the three had been drinking together in the bar on November 26, 2024, after frequent revellers of the joint positively identified them.
“Today, the Sub-County Head of Investigations led his team in conducting an identification parade, after it emerged that the trio had revelled at the bar earlier on the fateful night of the murder. Frequent consumers of frothy waters at the joint positively identified them,” DCI added.
One of the persons of interest who was arrested in Migori was found with blood-stained clothes according to the police report.
The officers connect that the trio used crude weapons to attack the night guard of the bar later in the night before breaking in and making away with several bottles of liquor.
The incident comes exactly one year after another night guard was killed in Kisii on December 6, 2023, where the assailants took off with Ksh30,000 worth of drinks.
“The three are being held at Nyamarambe Police Station, having been arraigned under a miscellaneous application to assist with further investigations,” the officers revealed.
