Kenya’s counter-terrorism forces have dismantled suspected Al-Shabaab militants’ makeshift camps near the Kenya-Somalia border.

The operation, led by the elite Multi-Agency security team, took place on Saturday, November 30, 2024.

In a statement shared by Counter Terrorism Policing SOG, the makeshift camps were reportedly being used as temporary logistics hubs by the militants.

“The elite Kenya Special Operations Group (SOG) carried out a daring and successful Intelligence-led operation at an #AlShabaab hideout along the Kenya-Somalia border. The makeshift camp, which was used as a temporary logistics store for Al-Shabaab, was discovered and destroyed by the SOG officers,” the statement read in part.

Adding;

“This operation underscores the SOG’s unwavering commitment to collaborating with other security actors and local communities to safeguard our nation against all threats. We commend the bravery of our heroes who continue to put their lives on the line to vanquish the terrorists and keep us safe.”

Al-Shabaab infiltration

Two months ago, the officers disrupted an attempted infiltration by the Al-Shabaab in the Boni Forest, near the Somali border.

The militants were surprised, leading to swift action by the security forces.

“The Sunday night operations caught the #Alshabaab militants by surprise. 4 militants were seriously wounded and escaped into the Somalia border with fatal injuries. The team recovered ammunition, deadly explosive-making materials, mobile phones, assorted medical supplies, food items, and portable solar panels,” the statement read in part.

According to the officers, the operation left four militants seriously injured. Although they fled toward the Somalia border, authorities believed the injuries were fatal.

“The success registered against #AlShabaab in the Boni Forest is as a result of constant border surveillance and close working relations between the residents of the border villages and security agencies. The security agencies vow to protect Kenyans and will always remain vigilant,” the statement read.
