The Law Society of Kenya on Monday, March 30, filed an electronic application in court seeking to push the national curfew starting hours by three hours.

Through a certificate of urgency, LSK also wants the court to compel the Inspector-General of Policy Hillary Mutyambai to publish in the Kenya Gazette guidelines on the conduct of police officers during enforcement of the countrywide curfew.

LSK has also sued Interior Cabinet Secrteray Fred Matiangi, his Health counterpart Mutahi Kagwe, Chief Justice David Maraga and Attorney-General Paul Kihara Kariuki.

In their application, the LSK wants the police service to be prohibited from using excessive force while enforcing the curfew.

The lawyers also want the government to be directed to include legal representation in the list of essential services provided.

“Pending the hearing of the application the chief justice to be ordered to appoint judges and magistrates to hear extremely urgent matters, “read the petition.

LSK President Nelson Havi who filed the petition also wants IG Mutyambai to be prohibited from harassing journalists during the curfew hours.
