Chief Justice Martha Koome has sent a message of condolence following the sudden death of Wilfred Mutubwa, a scholar and legal practitioner.

Mutubwa, who served as the Dean of Mount Kenya University’s School of Law, is said to have tragically passed away after collapsing in his office in Nairobi.

Taking to her official X account on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, CJ Koome extended her sympathies to his family, friends, and colleagues, praising his work in enhancing access to justice.

CJ Koome described Mutubwa as a dedicated legal expert who made significant contributions to Kenya’s justice system.

Mutubwa held several key roles within the legal fraternity, including serving as the Vice-Chairperson of the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT). He was also a member of the Judiciary’s Court Annexed Mediation Taskforce, where he worked to enhance alternative dispute resolution mechanisms in Kenya.

“On behalf of the Judiciary family and my behalf, I extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Dr. Wilfred Mutubwa, who served as the Vice-Chairperson of the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) and as a Member of the Judiciary’s Court Annexed Mediation Taskforce. Dr. Mutubwa, who was also the Chairman Emeritus of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators Kenya Branch, was renowned as a leading advocate for the multi-door approach to the delivery of justice in Kenya,” Koome said in her note.

Adding;

“His championing of arbitration and mediation as preferred methods of dispute resolution was instrumental in shaping these practices within the justice sector. Our thoughts and prayers are with Dr. Mutubwa’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
