The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rainfall expected to pound most parts of the country from November 26 to December 2, 2024.

In a weather advisory shared on Monday, the weatherman outlined the areas likely to experience rainfall and highlighted potential extreme weather conditions during the forecast period.

The affected regions include the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, South-eastern Lowlands, the Coast, and North-western and North-eastern Kenya.

While all these areas are expected to receive rainfall, the weather department noted that isolated heavy downpours of more than 20mm may occur, particularly during the first half of the week.

In addition to the rainfall, the weatherman provided details on temperature variations across the country. Daytime temperatures in the Coastal, North-eastern, and North-western regions are forecast to exceed 30°C, while cooler conditions are anticipated at night in the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley, and South-eastern Lowlands, with temperatures likely to drop below 10°C.

Earlier, the department forecasted continued rainfall across most parts until Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

Key regions, including Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, and parts of the Rift Valley and Western Kenya, are set to experience afternoon showers accompanied by thunder and lightning. Morning rainfall will be sporadic. Temperatures in these areas will range between 10°C and 32°C.

In the North-Western counties of Turkana and Samburu, rain is expected during mornings and afternoons, with temperatures fluctuating between 10°C and 37°C on sunnier days.

The highlands east of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi and surrounding counties, will see scattered morning showers and widespread afternoon rainfall, with temperatures varying from 10°C to 28°C.

North-Eastern regions such as Marsabit, Mandera, and Wajir are likely to receive morning showers and heavier afternoon rain, with highs of 35°C. Meanwhile, South-Eastern counties like Kitui, Makueni, and Machakos will experience light rains in some areas, with temperatures ranging from 12°C to 34°C.

Coastal areas, including Mombasa and Kilifi, will have sunny intervals followed by mostly cloudy conditions, with temperatures between 23°C and 34°C.
