The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the temporary closure of a section of the Meru-Embu Road on Sunday, November 17, 2024.
In a statement released on Friday, November 15, 2024, the closure is aimed at supporting a procession to commemorate the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Crash Victims.
According to KeNHA, the affected stretch lies between Muthambi and the Nithi Bridge and will remain closed from 8:30 am to 9:30 am on Sunday. The procession will begin at the Muthambi DCC grounds and proceed to the Nithi Bridge, bringing together various stakeholders to honour victims of road traffic accidents and promote road safety awareness.
To minimize disruption, KeNHA has issued alternative routes for motorists.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of Meru-Embu (A9) Road between Muthambi and Nithi Bridge will be closed on Sunday, November 17, 2024, from 8.30 am to 9.30 am. This is to allow for a procession to mark World Day of Remembrance of road traffic crash victims from Muthambi DCC grounds to Nithi Bridge,” KeNHA announced.
Adding;
“Motorists plying on this road shall use the following alternative routes: motorists from Embu towards Meru will take a right turn at 50m before the bridge, pass through Muthambi Vocational Training Centre, and join the main road at Muthambi Centre.”
On the other hand, motorists heading from Meru to Embu should turn left at Muthambi Centre, follow the route through Muthambi Vocational Training Centre, and rejoin the main road 50 meters beyond the bridge.
KeNHA urged road users to adhere to the proposed traffic management plan and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals who will be stationed along the diversion routes.

The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Crash Victims is a global observance held every third Sunday of November to honour those who have lost their lives or been injured in road accidents. It also serves as a call to action for governments and individuals to prioritize road safety initiatives.
