The Kenya Ports Authority Managing Director Daniel Manduku has resigned.

Mr. Manduku, who is facing corruption allegations, wrote to the Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia on Thursday, March 26, informing of his decision to quit.

“I write to communicate formally a decision which I have reached after deep introspection and lengthy consultation. As you know, it has been both an honour and a privilege to serve as the head of this most vital installation. The duty of the captain of this ship has been to ensure that she remains steady and that she stays her course,” said Mr. Manduku.

Earlier this month, Manduku was arrested and taken to court alongside Kenya Revenue Authority’s Commissioner for Customs Kevin Safari but the two walked scot-free following a public spat involving the prosecution and investigators.

They were released by the court after it emerged that the Director of Public Prosecutions had not recommended their charges even as the Directorate of Criminal Investigations insisted the duo take plea.
