Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection Alfred Mutua has warned of scammers targeting Kenyans who attended Qatar job interviews at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

This comes after a section of Kenyans, who attended the interviews, started receiving messages inviting them to collect their appointment letters.

In a statement on Sunday, November 10, 2024, Mutua said that successful candidates will be notified through a phone call and not through messages.

“Successful candidates from the Qatar interviews will be notified by phone call, not SMS. Appointment letters will be available for collection only at KICC,” Mutua stated.

The CS has promised that the suspected con artists are currently being pursued by the authorities to bring them to book.

“Security agencies are actively pursuing the authors and publishers of the above and other similar misleading and false information intended to scam unsuspecting Kenyans. Please remain cautious of potential con artists,” he added.

Qatar jobs

Hundreds of Kenyans turned up at KICC on October 25, 2024, for job interviews by a Qatari-based company that had been announced by Mutua.

While announcing the job vacancies, Mutua stated that the Ministry of Labour had collaborated with a Qatar company to conduct interviews in Nairobi at KICC and Kabete National Polytechnic for several job positions for three days beginning Friday, October 25, 2024, through to Sunday, October 27, 2024.

“A Qatari company, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, is in Nairobi conducting interviews for various job opportunities over the next two days,” Mutua announced.

The results of the interviews are yet to be released.
