The spouse of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua Pastor Dorcas Rigathi has broken her silence moments after Professor Kithure Kindiki was sworn in as the new deputy president.
In a statement on Friday, November 1, 2024, Dorcas revealed that the family had converged for prayers a day after the courts gave a go-ahead for the swearing in of Kindiki as the new deputy president.
“We Give God all the glory. It is easy to look at the challenges and circumstances surrounding you and forget the cardinal rule of a believer. Today, my family and I choose to give a prayer of thanksgiving, understanding that, God remains sovereign, whether He saves us from fire or not, Daniel 3:16-18,” Dorcas stated.
“We give thanks to God for His awesome faithfulness. We call Him, Ebenezer, for this far we celebrate Him. We have seen His mercy and experienced His goodness. Glory and honour be to His Holy name.”
Dorcas also quoted the book of Job 13:15-16 which says, “Though he slay me, yet will I hope in him; I will surely defend my ways to his face. Indeed, this will turn out for my deliverance, for no godless person would dare come before him.”
This came moments after Gachagua, who was impeached as the deputy president, broke his silence after his successor was sworn in.
In a statement moments after Kindiki was sworn in on Friday, November 1, 2024, Gachagua revealed that he had arrived at his rural home, sharing a photo with his two sons and wife.
“Home Sweet Home! Thanking God for the gift of my family. The smell of fresh grass, sounds of chirping birds is what a happy family needs. I will remain forever grateful to God, for giving me a loving and supportive family. We are happy to be home, where I was born and brought up!” he stated.
“I can’t wait for the morning to take my walk in Hombe Forest, enjoy the beautiful scenery of Mt Kenya as I thank God for His kindness.”
Enter Kindiki, exit Gachagua
Kindiki assumes office after the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua, Ruto’s first deputy.
His assumption comes after legal battles that were waged by Gachagua, who was impeached by Parliament. Mwengi Mutuse, Kibwezi Member of Parliament, moved the motion at the National Assembly, where it was approved and moved to the Senate.
At the Senate, Gachagua did not appear for cross-examination, and his lawyers later said he fell sick and was taken to the hospital.
The Senate proceedings moved on regardless, and five of the 11 charges were upheld, meaning that Gachagua stood impeached.
He moved to the court and obtained orders that stopped Kindiki from taking an oath of office. However, a three-judge bench at the High Court – consisting of Eric Ogola, Anthony Mrima, and Fredah Mugambi – lifted the orders, paving the way for Kindiki to assume office.
