Unknown gunmen shot dead a police officer before stealing his AK-47 rifle loaded with thirty rounds of ammunition at Suswa standard gauge railway (SGR) station Section 9

The gunmen, who were driving in a white Toyota Fielder then proceeded to the cash office where they stole an empty cash box, thinking it had money.

The in-charge of the SGR station Section 9 Inspector Joseph Gethi said they heard some gunshots from the main gate at around 10.30 am on Tuesday and went to check what was happening.

At the scene, they found one of their colleagues who was manning the gate lying unconscious with a gunshot wound on the head.

The officer was rushed to Olubwani Medical Clinic at Suswa but was confirmed dead by the doctors.

Eyewitnesses said the three gunmen, all armed with pistols shot the man then proceeded to the cash office.

Reports indicate that the station was to be closed today and the thugs believed there was money in the cash office.

Detectives led by the Commandant Railways and his DCI counterpart visited the scene and recovered three spent cartridges of 9mm calibre and the stolen AK47’s sling.

Few hours later, the same vehicle was spotted in Nairobi but by 4pm today, they had not been arrested.
