The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo has questioned the security agency bosses over their silence amid increasing cases of insecurity in the country.
Speaking at a local TV station on Thursday 24, 2024, the LSK boss wondered why the newly appointed Inspector General (IG) of Police, Douglas Kanja, had not come out to assure the nation of its security and spell out proper measures to address various cases of killings, abductions, and other forms of insecurity witnessed in the country in the last couple of weeks.
Odhiambo expressed concern, claiming that the security officers had dropped their guard, allowing cases of insecurity to dominate the news items daily.
“We are seeing more and more of the police dropping the ball. We have a new Inspector General of Police, and I think part and parcel of his responsibilities should be taking up some of these cases strongly.
“The question is, what measures are being set in place because of the scores of killings? So in terms of human rights violations, we continue to see various cases coming up, but there is a lot of mum. We are not hearing what the Inspector General of Police is doing, what he has set in place, and the Director of Public Prosecution having a hard stance towards the kind of killings that we are seeing in this nation,” she stated.
The LSK President thus challenged the IG to act swiftly and assure the citizens of their security.
Mbeere North Member of Parliament (MP) Geoffrey Ruku echoed Odhiambo’s sentiments, insisting that the government should account for every life lost.
“Any life lost should be taken seriously by the government of the day. There should be no abduction and extrajudicial killings, and any person who is lost, the government should be in a position to account for them,” Ruku stated.
Cases of insecurity
In the last couple of days, cases of killings and other forms of insecurity have been reported in various parts of the country. On Wednesday, October 23, 2024, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru visited the family of nominated MCA Lucy Njeri, whose daughter Seth Nyakio Njeri was found dead in Thika.
Waiguru expressed sorrow, indicating that no mother should carry the pain of burying their child.
“As a mother, my heart breaks for the tragic loss of Seth Nyakio Njeri. Lucy Njeri Mwaniki, I condole with you and express my unwavering support during this very difficult period,” Waiguru’s statement read in part.
“Losing a child is unimaginable, and no parent should have to bear such grief. I pray that your family finds strength as you navigate through this painful time. May God comfort you, give you peace and healing, and restore you in a way that only He can.
“Rest in eternal peace, Seth Nyakio,” Waiguru added.

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna also visited the family of three women in Eastleigh who were found murdered. The senator condemned the incident calling on various security agencies to take action.
Senator Sifuna stated, “Given the recent wave of abductions and killings, it’s hard to believe anyone feels a sense of safety in our own country right now. Nobody is safe until all of us are safe.”
Still, on Wednesday, Siaya Governor James Orengo mourned the loss of his friend whom he claimed was abducted before being found dead.
Other cases include the murder of 26-year-old Mercy Rufani which DCI arrested two persons of interest and Wells Fargo HR who was also found dead.
With cases increasing daily, various leaders led by former Baringo Senator Gideon Moi have called on the government to intervene.
