Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has visited the family of her area Member of the County Assembly (MCA) whose daughter, Seth Nyakio Njeri, was found dead in Thika.

Nyakio was the daughter of a nominated MCA from Kirinyaga Lucy Njeri who was found dead in a rented room in Biafra, Thika.

The incident involving the 23-year-old is the latest brutal manifestation of extreme violence against women in the country.

Waiguru’s message

After visiting the family, Waiguru expressed immense pain in how the life of the 23-year-old ended.

The second-term governor pledged to support the nominated MCA during their difficult period.

“As a mother, my heart breaks for the tragic loss of Seth Nyakio Njeri. Lucy Njeri Mwaniki, I condole with you and express my unwavering support during this very difficult period,” Waiguru’s statement read in part.

“Losing a child is unimaginable and no parent should have to bear such grief. I pray that your family finds strength as you navigate through this painful time. May God comfort you, give you peace, healing and restore you in a way that only He can.

“Rest in eternal peace Seth Nyakio,” Waiguru added.

Mother’s plea

The nominated MCA Kirinyaga County said her only daughter was in high spirits on the fateful day. Lucy Njeri told the press that she would have restrained her daughter had she known that would have been her outcome of going out.

“Had I known that was the last time she was to be with me alive, I would have dissuaded her from going. But there was no instinct to warn me that my beloved daughter was heading to a painful death,” she said.

She however pleaded with the law enforcement officers to help them get justice.

Nyakio was found dead, with postmortem results confirming strangulation as the cause of death.
