Kenyans could be treated to more drama even as the courts handle cases related to the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua as the deputy president, Mbeere MP Geoffery Ruku has stated.

Speaking to K24 TV on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, Ruku revisited Gachagua’s days in high school and the university where he played drama.

“There are things I say and Kenyans make a lot of noise. I have to filter some truths. Gachagua played drama when he was in high school and university and he is very good at that. We are likely to see more drama as we move forward,” Ruku stated.

This is not the first time Gachagua’s life as an actor is coming into the limelight. In June, the embattled politician admitted that he has been a content creator before, a trait he has been unable to shake off his life.

“I saw some people try to attack me because I joined content creators and actors. I was an actor and a content creator, there is nothing you can do about it. Some of these things you will die with them,” Gachagua said in June 2024.

Gachagua’s impeachment saga

Gachagua is currently fighting to retain his seat as the second in command after the National Assembly and the Senate voted to kick him out.

During the hearing in the Senate, Gachagua was taken ill and rushed to hospital moments before he was scheduled to take to the stand to testify in his case.

Speaking after his release from Karen Hospital on Sunday, October 20, 2024, the ousted DP declared that he did not feel safe and that the president was after his life.

In an emotional appeal during his tell-it-all address, Gachagua boldly begged the president to do whatever he wished but spare him and his family.

“I ask President Ruto, my brother, I helped you to be president, leave me alone, leave my children alone. Do whatever you want but let me live and look after my children,” the DP said.

“You can do whatever you want to the country but let me live because I was there for you when you needed somebody to be there for you, when you were in trouble and needed a man who could stand with you, I stood with you with my family. You have paid us in kind by being so cruel and vicious against us, we are simple people, and a very small family let us be. Do whatever you want, but please I beg you don’t kill us, don’t kill my children. You have caused me enough pain for the last one year, leave me alone. Allow me to have my peace.”

Gachagua summoned by DCI

Gachagua was later summoned to appear before the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over his assassination attempt claims.

In a summon letter dated October 21, 2024, and seen by K24 Digital, the DCI argued that he had made serious allegations.

The anti-crime agency in the letter addressed to Gachagua invited him to appear before it on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, to formally record a statement, an invite he ignored.

Instead, he chose to appear in court in person accompanied by his son Keith Ikinu as he sought to retain his seat.

They appeared at the Milimani Law Courts where a three-judge bench is set to hear a case challenging stay orders stopping the assumption of office of the deputy president by Kithure Kindiki

The two were flanked by former United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Clephas Malala, Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina and Nyandarua Senator John Methu.

During the hearing on Tuesday, Gachagua’s lawyers Ndegwa Njiru and Paul Muite questioned why Justice Philomena Mwilu appointed a three-judge bench on Friday night without Chief Justice Martha Koome’s consent.
