One person in Machakos was arrested after he was caught with bhang worth Ksh6.9 million.

Confirming the arrest, Machakos County Commissioner Josephine Ouko noted that the suspect was caught as he was driving within Machakos Township at midnight.

Police who were on routine patrol, intercepted his vehicle as it was headed to Kitui County from Migori and discovered that he was ferrying two sacks of bhang weighing 200 kgs.

“Yesterday at midnight, our officers on patrol were able to intercept this vehicle you are seeing here carrying two sacks of cannabis sativa (bhang) weighing 200 with a street value of about Sh6.9million. According to the driver, he was ferrying the consignment from Migori to Kitui County, claims we can’t authenticate,” Ouko stated.

The police also noted that the six registration number plates belonging to different motor vehicles were also recovered during the arrest.

“The suspect was driving the Toyota Wish that had six number plates he used to disguise himself. He could be involved in a car theft syndicate. We don’t know which of the number plates belongs to this motor vehicle,” Commissioner Ouko added.

Following the recovery, the commissioner has asked Kenyans who have lost their vehicles to report to the area police commander.

“They should know the people who they are hiring their vehicles, take proper records and install trackers for easy monitoring. Those whose vehicles are hired and used to commit crime risk forfeiting them to the government,” she added.

The vehicle was oved to the Machakos Police Station where the suspect is currently being held pending arraignment.

Commissioner Ouko has since fired warning to those engaging in illegal crimes saying the long arm of the law will catch up to them.

“We warn all involved in the illicit trade that we are coming for you. We will put dogs on our highways,” she stated.
