Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has for the first time spoken about his fallout with President William Ruto.

Speaking on Sunday, October 20, 2024, after being discharged from Karen Hospital, Gachagua revealed that Ruto has been treating him with hostility adding that even when he was fighting for his life the president showed him no mercy.

Comparing his current situation with Ruto, with that of the late President Moi and Kenneth Matiba, Gachagua stated that history is repeating itself adding that  Ruto wanted to push him to death the Moi did to Matiba.

“When I look at it probably, it is history repeating itself President Ruto wanted to take me the route President Moi took Kenneth Matiba, he pushed Matiba up to getting a stroke and eventually dying. And I look to what the president is doing to me especially now that I am in the hospital crippling me, treating me like an animal I think he wanted to take me the Matiba route,” Gachagua revealed.

Speaking about his ousting at the Senate, Gachagua disclosed that the historic impeachment is a continuation of the cruelty he has been subjected to.

He went on to narrate how Ruto has been unfriendly to him adding that for the last one year, he experienced animosity.

“For the last one year has been very difficult for me but am a very persevering man and very enduring and what happened on Thursday is a combination of the continued persecution and stress for a year,” he said.

Gachagua on trusting Ruto

Gachagua disclosed that he trusted Ruto and did not demand any Memorandum Of Understating the way Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetang’ula did before supporting his presidency.

He further stated that at no point did he think the president would betray him and the people of the Mount Kenya region.

“We have made many mistakes in life and we keep on learning I trusted President William Ruto, the people from where I come from Mt Kenya region trusted him in fact as we were preparing to go to the office no one else trusted him, Musalia Mudavadi demanded to sign an MOU with him which he did, Moses Wetang’ula also demanded to sign an MOU which he did, Amason Kingi demanded the same Alfred Mutua everybody else am the only man who trusted him verbally because we are Christians we used to go to church together as a Christian I trusted my fellow Christian that he will never betray me and my people,” Gachagua narrated.

Security details

He further lamented how his security was withdrawn after the Senate impeached him while he was fighting for his life.

Additionally, the former DP stated that if anything happens to him or my family Ruto must be held accountable.

“I want the people of Kenya to know as I go home today I have no security is good that they know if anything happens to me or my family President William Ruto must be held to account,” he said.
