JKIA named Africa’s leading airport at World Travel Awards

Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) has been crowned as Africa’s leading airport at the 2024 World Travel Awards.

In a statement shared by the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), JKIA emerged as the winner beating other airports in the continent which were nominated in that category.

JKIA was nominated alongside Cape Town International Airport (South Africa), Casablanca Mohammed V International Airport (Morocco) and Julius Nyerere International Airport (Tanzania).

Others include Kigali International Airport (Rwanda), King Shaka International Airport, Durban (South Africa) and O.R. Tambo International Airport (South Africa).

However, JKIA emerged as the winner asserting its dominance on the continental stage.

Commenting on the win, KAA indicated that it showed JKIA’s commitment to offer world-class services and meet the ever-changing demands of travellers using the airport.

The authority also appreciated the customers for pushing JKIA to its current continental recognised standards.

“This win reflects our commitment to delivering exceptional service, enhancing operational efficiency, and continuously improving the passenger experience. We thank all our passengers and partners for their continued support,” KAA stated.

The World Travel Awards recognizes leading organisations across the travel and tourism economy, including airlines, hotels, tour operators, travel agents, tourist attractions and safaris.

They select firms that have demonstrated innovation and dedication in providing exceptional travel experiences. Most notably, it seeks to recognize African tourism brands that have not only recovered but thrived in the post-pandemic era, demonstrating their resilience.

Other winners

During the World Travel Awards held on Friday night October 18, 2024, in Diani Beach, Kenya Airways, the national carrier, scooped Africa’s Leading Airline.

KQ was also crowned Africa’s Leading Airline – Business Class 2024, Africa’s Leading Airline Brand 2024 and Africa’s Leading Inflight Magazine 2024 (Msafiri).

Speaking after the win, KQ Chief Executive Officer Allan Kilavuka indicated that the award proves its commitment to giving the best services to travellers.

“Winning this means so much to us, as it’s not only as a validation of our hard work and efforts but also serves as a motivation to continue striving for excellence. We soared beyond expectations, reaffirming our position as the Pride of Africa,” he stated.

On the other hand, Diani Beach was named Africa’s Leading Beach Destination in 2024.
