3 suspects arrested as detectives seize counterfeit alcohol in Nakuru

Detectives in Nakuru have apprehended three individuals accused of fabricating counterfeit alcoholic spirit brands.

The three, Mary Mugure, Peter Macharia and Vincent Kibagendi were nabbed at the godown on Print Press Road within the Nakuru Industrial Area following a joint operation led by officers from DCI Headquarters. 

During the arrest, detectives recovered 60 sacks of assorted bottle caps for different alcoholic spirit brands, a plastic molding machine, two and a half drums of ethanol, various labels and stickers of the fake brands. 

I”n a determined effort to rid the market of counterfeit goods, a joint task force comprised of officers from DCI Headquarters, the Nakuru Regional County Investigations Office, and the Kenya Revenue Authority Enforcement has apprehended three individuals in Nakuru for their involvement in fabricating counterfeit alcoholic spirit brands,” a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reads in parts. 

The suspects were taken into police custody pending arraignment while the items recovered were moved to the KRA warehouse.

Following the successful arrest of the suspects, DCI reiterated their commitment to end the infiltration of counterfeit products in the market.
