Nearly 40 percent of all the people infected by coronavirus globally have recovered from the disease while 53 percent of active cases have mild conditions.

This is according to the https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ site which has been tracking coronavirus infections as reported by countries.

By Thursday, March 19, the number of those infected worldwide stood at 220,199, which is a meagre 0.3 percent of the world population.

While the countries have locked down across the globe as the disease travels to nearly all continents, except Antarctica, there is hope that the majority of those who get infected will recover and will not need hospitalisation.

Out of the 220,199 infected people in the world, only 8,982 have died and only five percent (6,825) of active cases are in critical condition. The active cases as of Thursday are 125,448.

There is a glimmer of hope from China after the country said that it did not report any new cases from the Chinese mainland, with the 34 new cases being people coming from other countries.

From the Worldometer site, China, South Korea, Indonesia and US recorded highest number of new fatalities with 8, 7, 6 and 5 deaths respectively.

According to a study published on JAMA by Chang Weng and others last month, the median time from the first symptom to shortness of breath (dyspnea) was found to be five days, to hospital admission seven days and to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) eight days.

The China National Health Commission found that the median says from the first symptom to death were 14 days but tended to be shorter among people 70 years and above.
