Over 55 patients who were being held at the Kiambu County Referral Hospital for unsettled hefty medical bills have been released.
Kiambu County boss, Dr. James Nyoro, said he ordered the release of the patients as one of the measures to reduce congestion in the hospital in wake of the coronavirus outbreak.
Governor Nyoro made the announcement on Wednesday, March 18, as he outlined the measures the county has put in place to ward off Covid-19.
He said the county has set aside Sh30 million, some of which will be used to provide water in all matatu stations for passengers to wash their hands.
The water will also be made available to matatu owners so that the vehicles can be washed regularly.
Further, Dr. Nyoro ordered all sporting facilities and movie theatres closed indefinitely.
The governor, who recently took over from the impeached Ferdinand Waititu, said that all level five and four hospitals in the county are ready to handle any confirmed coronavirus cases.
