An Englishman in his 30s has been placed under mandatory quarantine after he contracted coronavirus while on a romantic getaway with his paramour in Italy.
The patient, whose name remain unrevealed, is said to have confessed to public health coordinators in England how he picked up coronavirus following a secret break overseas.
The married man, The Sun reports, had told his wife that he would be away from home on a business trip. He, however, stated that the convention will be in England, and not Italy.
Upon returning to England from Italy, where he had taken his mistress, the man took himself to hospital after developing fever, cough and a runny nose — symptoms of the now-dreaded coronavirus.
Coronavirus tests on him returned positive, The Sun reports.
“The man, described as well-heeled and with a high-flying job, told doctors that the affair was with a woman, but has refused to name her,” reports the English newspaper.
According to The Sun, the man’s wife is now in self-isolation at their lavish home in the north of England, unaware of how her cheating husband caught the disease.
Italy is the second-hardest-hit country by coronavirus outbreak after China, the epicenter of the dreaded virus.
The European country by Wednesday morning, March 18, reported 31, 506 cases of the COVID-19. Out of that number, 2, 503 patients died, whereas 2, 941 recovered.
Lockdown
A rising number of infractions pushed Italian authorities to take a firmer stance to enforce rules of an almost total lockdown aimed at limiting the coronavirus outbreak in Europe’s worst-hit country.
More than 665,000 were subjected to checks between March 11 – 15, according to Interior Ministry’s data.
More than 27,600 citizens and about 1,100 business owners were reported for violations during that time.
In a desperate bid to curb the spread of the virus, which has already claimed more than 2,500 lives, Italy’s imposed a near-total lockdown, shutting down schools, bars, restaurants and all non-essential business activities.
Anyone exiting a residence needs to provide authorities a self-certification explaining the reason for the movement. These are allowed in just four cases: work, health, basic needs and in case one needs to travel to their own residence.
