Mumias East Member of Parliament, Peter Salasya has expressed pride in his commitment of not drinking during the day that he made earlier this year.

In a statement on Thursday, September 19, 2024, the legislator shared his achievement describing it as a major success in his life.

“I made a promise to myself I will never drink during the day. This is one of my biggest strengths of success,” he said.

Salasya’s to youths

Salasya’s announcement follows his previous remarks in March 2024 during the government’s crackdown on illicit alcohol. At the time, he advised young people to steer clear of alcohol if they could not manage their consumption.

Salasya has warned that uncontrolled and excessive drinking can negatively impact lives. He expressed concern about certain establishments selling alcohol, particularly to young people, even during daytime hours, which encourages early-morning drinking.

Salasya called on the government to take action by shutting down these outlets and holding the owners accountable.

“If you are out there and you know you are someone who cannot control alcohol, avoid it because alcohol can destroy your life. There are people who take alcohol, they go to joints very early in the name of ‘kutoa lock,” Salasya stated.

Adding;

“I want to join the government to ensure that the illicit alcohol outlets selling during the day are all shut and owners arrested.”
