Police in Makueni are pursuing a man who burnt his wife at Shimo Estate in Wote town, took her to hospital and then disappeared.

Solomon Muthaura Rukaria, 42, is alleged to have gone home drunk at 11pm on Thursday where he started quarrelling his wife.

He then poured paint thinner on her and set her ablaze.

The woman, Peninah Ngina Maundu, 26, sustained serious injuries on the lower abdomen, left thigh, right hand and left finger and is recovering at Rapha Hospital in Wote town.

Makueni Deputy County Police Commander, Mr. Justus Kitetu, confirmed the incident adding some furniture was also burnt.

He said the woman sustained 14 percent burns and was in stable condition.

“Police are hunting for the culprit to charge him with assault. The husband is the one who put out the fire and rushed her to the hospital. He also threatened her not to reveal what had happened,” Kitetu said.
