Residents of over 20 counties have been advised to brace for cool and cloudy conditions for the next five days.
According to the Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met), the extreme cold and cloudy conditions will run from Saturday, September 7, 2024, to Wednesday, September 11, 2024.
“Intermittent cool and cloudy conditions are expected over some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the South-eastern lowlands and the Rift Valley,” the statement issued by the weatherman read in part.
Specific areas
Areas falling in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley will experience this weather condition for five days. Some of the specific listed places include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka and Nairobi Counties.
The residents have been advised to dress warmly and motorists to drive carefully due to reduced visibility likely to be caused by foggy conditions, especially in the morning.
The Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley will also have extreme cold weather conditions. Counties in this region include Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot.
Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta Counties will also experience cool and cloudy conditions.
Rainfall
In the five days, the weatherman indicated that some areas will experience rainfall.
“Rainfall is expected to continue over some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley and the Coast,” the forecast statement added.
The coastal counties set to experience rainfall, especially in the morning include Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale.
Nonetheless, some areas will experience sunny conditions with the specific counties being Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and
Isiolo.
