Comedian Eric Omondi has continued with his push to have the number of leaders representing Kenyans at the national level reduced.
Speaking on Friday, September 6, 2024, during a televised interview with one of the local TV stations, the comedian who has since turned into an activist said that the entire senate should be scrapped off.
Oversight
Omondi argues that Kenyans have since taken up the oversight role, which he says is meant to be performed by the senate.
According to Eric Omondi, lawyer and political activist David Morara Kebaso has been performing the oversight role singlehandedly.
He went ahead to state that Kenyans are currently facing desperate times, which will call for desperate measures.
“We are in very desperate times, and desperate times call for desperate measures. This is what I will continue suggesting: we must do away with the Senate, and I will explain why.
“What Morara is doing is oversight, anaifanya pekee yake tu, for example, the work of an entire senate. Unless we agree that the 47 senators will instantly become the 47 MPs and we do away with the National Assembly. We have to pick one,” Omondo stated.
Omondi on over representation
He went ahead to state that Kenyans are overrepresented, making the country lose a lot of the tax payers’ money that goes to paying salaries of the representatives.
According to Eric Omondi, there is no need of having over 300 Members of Parliament, 47 senators, 47 governors, 47 deputy governors, and hundreds of Members of the County Assembly, all representing the same people.
“We have 349 Members of Parliament, 47 senators, 47 governors, and 47 deputy governors who are currently asking the government what their role is. Wanalipwa Ksh669,000 per month na bado sijaongelele benefits na allowances. The Kenyan economy cannot handle this burden, which falls on the shoulder of the taxpayer,” Omondi stated.
Morara’s oversight
Morara has been moving around the country rattling state agents over stalled government projects, which he has been exposing.
In his tours, Morara has been going on top of his vehicle to imitate President William Ruto, making promises before he goes ahead to expose the stalled projects.
He has since acquired a high-end vehicle ahead of his upcoming de-launch tours.
The vehicle registered KCJ 200W has been customized to have a public address system akin to that of the president so that he is able to address large crowds.
While confirming the latest, the Nairobi-based businessman-turned-activist, who has quickly risen to become an internet sensation over his continuous tendencies of questioning the government on the use of public funds, called on graphic designers to offer their branding and wrapping skills so that he can hit the ground running soon.
