Gachagua’s promise
On April 4, 2024, DP Gachagua hosted Chengo at the Official Residence in Mombasa. During the meeting, Gachagua reported that he was moved by her deep determination to fend for the family and secure the future of her children.
Gachagua praised Chengo for her work ethic; she observed that she served her customers mandazis and tea in a hospitable style.
Following the meeting, the DP indicated that it was worth it to support her business and her two children.
“I hosted Asha at the Official Residence in Mombasa. The deep determination to live a dignified life and specifically offer her children quality education stood out in our conversation.
“It was, therefore, deserving to support Asha in expanding the hustle, besides education for her two teenage sons,” Gachagua said on April 4, 2024.
In my early morning walks along Mama Ngina Drive in Mombasa City, I usually notice this particular woman engrossed in baking mandazi and cheerfully serving it with tea to her customers, mostly hustlers walking to their places of work.

Gachagua organised the meeting after bumping into the vendor early that morning in Mombasa during his morning exercise.
“My healthy walk in Mombasa City this morning was a moment of interaction with hardworking Hustlers, who are immensely contributing to our economic growth.
“For Mama Asha Sidi Chengo, waking up early to bake and sell mandazi and hot tea along Mama Ngina Drive helps meet the needs of her family,” Gachagua stated earlier before meeting Chengo at his official Mombasa residence.
