The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga’s spouse Ida Odinga on Saturday, August 24, 2024, turned a year older.

As usual, Raila threw a birthday party for his spouse, which was held at a Nairobi hotel on Saturday night to mark her 74 years on earth.

Ida’s birthday party was attended by high-profile figures, among them governors, Cabinet Secretaries and Members of Parliament.

Photos shared by some of the event’s attendees show a happy Ida donning a greenish dress with some touch of gold.

To blend in, Raila who is seen in the photos dancing with his wife, donned a green Kaunda suit.

Some of the notable figures that attended Mama Ida’s birthday party are Homa Bay governor Gladys Wanga, her Kirinyaga counterpart Anne Waiguru, Nairobi County governor Johnson Sakaja and his Mombasa counterpart Abdulswamad Sheriff Nasir.

Members of Parliament, including Embakasi East MP Babu Owino also attended the event.

Cabinet Secretaries that can be noticed from the event are Mining and Blue Economy CS Hassan Joho and his Energy and Petroleum counterpart Opiyo Wandayi.

Some of the leaders took to their social media accounts after the event, to extend their wishes to Mama Ida.

His son Raila Odinga Junior who also attended the party, took to his official X account to wish his mother a happy birthday.

Below are some of the statements shared by a section of those who attended Ida Odinga’s birthday party.

“Happy Birthday Mama Ida Odinga May the Almighty continue blessing you with good health and happiness. Amin,” CS Joho posted.

“Happy birthday mama, Ida Odinga,” his son Raila Odinga Junior posted.

“Mama Ida has played a remarkable and inspirational role in the modern history of our nation. She has been a key uniting factor and advocate for the well being of the family unit across society. Dr. Odinga is a lady that I hold in high regard and it was an honor to join fellow friends and family in celebrating her life on this special occasion of her birthday as she raises awareness on mental wellness.,” ODM Deputy Party Leader and Mombasa governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nasir posted.

Ida Odinga was born on August 24, 1950, and apart from being Raila Odinga’s spouse, she is a renowned businesswoman in the country. 

They have four children: the late Fidel Odinga, Raila Junior, Rosemary Odinga, and Winnie Odinga.

Ida has also been engaged in a number of issues that are of national importance. 

She founded the League of Kenya Women Voters in 1991, whose aim was to promote opportunities for women in the political arena. She served as the chairperson of the League.
