Kenyan rugby player Tony Onyango Opondo has died.

The Kenya Rugby union now confirms Onyango died on Tuesday night after collapsing at his home in Ngong.

Onyango had earlier attended club training at Ruaraka on Tuesday afternoon.

He played for Kenya across all representative levels. His first call up was at Kenya Simbas under Michael Tank Otieno in April 2012.

Prior to the call up, Onyango played for Kenya’s Under 19s in 2010.

He became a favourite of Jerome Paarwater and played for the Simbas up to 2018.

Onyango played for Kenya Sevens during the 2014/15 season under Paul True.

He was an alumnus of Maseno School and played for Impala before later joining Strathmore.

Further, he was part of the squad that reached the 2012/13 Kenya Cup final.

Onyango also played for Homeboyz after leaving Strathmore and had a stint at KCB, being part of the squad that beat Kabras 23-15 in last season’s final in Kakamega.

He leaves behind his wife and a son.
