Mumias East Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has shared a deeply personal story of his humble beginnings.
Taking to his official Instagram account on the night of Saturday, August 10, 2024, shared a modest dwelling which he says belonged to his mother and his twin siblings two years ago, just before he became an MP.
Salasya on his house
Salasya in what looks like offering a beacon of hope and inspiration to many, says he did not have a bed in his house, which lacked basic amenities like windows and proper ventilations.
The youthful lawmaker who became a political figure after clinching the parliamentary seat on a Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) party, says he used to sleep on the floor.
He shared a double-cabin pickup which he had been given by DAP-K party leader Eugine Wamalwa for campaign purposes, with the described house that he says belonged to his mother, clearly visible in the background.
However, Salasya pointed out that the house he used to sleep in was not visible in the picture, since it was a bit far from his mother’s house.
“Hapa ndio ilikuwa nyumbani and our house two years ago .That house is ours belonging to my mother and my twin brother and sister wenye wananifuata yani our last born ndio walikuwa wanalala hapo kangu kako chini kidogo hakakuwa hata na dirisha na sikuwa na kitanda nilikuwa nalala chini true story,” Salasya stated.
Salasya’s encouragement
Salasya went ahead to encourage Kenyans never to lose hope, reminding them that anything is indeed possible as long as someone keeps on trying and remains hopeful.
He further encouraged Kenyans to keep on believing in God, working hard and sacrificing.
“Indeed no one should lose hope in life. Anything is possible just keep trying and being hopeful. You are going to change your home through your career or business you are chasing today.
“God is faithful just believe him in your heart and work hard and sacrifice we call foregone cost opportunities in business studies,” Salasya said.
Salasya has since built a modern house for himself, his mother and his siblings, in their rural home in Mumias East Sub-County, Kakamega County.
Before putting up his modern house, his constituents had helped him build a semi permanent house, which he later improved and modernized.
